Well as you can probably tell i'm going to talk about my trip to paris with my american friend. We went at the end of november, which was a good choice as unlike spring or summer its not too packed. However there is a downside to this the weather was freezing, so cold in fact i had to buy a some gloves!
So we started the trip in manchester where we then hopped onto a two hour journey down south to london euston, there we transfered to the very modern St Pancras station. Some of you may be saying why not go by aeroplane, well we could of, but its not nearly as exciting as going by train and you do end up in the centre of paris.
The next negotiating part of the journey was getting our way around the underground system in paris, which at first seemed an impossible task, but after a while we soon realised how to work it. We found buying a "carnet" ticket which are like 10 or 20 tickest the best and cheapest option.
Thanfuly our hotel, which was a really good 2 star called Hotel Belfort was located not far from pere lachaise cementry which holds many famous people and jim morrison!
The afternoon we spent mainly around the eiffel tower, but due to the poor whether at that time we didn't stay for long. I would recomend not going up the eiffel tower, although it is nice there are other places where you can get a better view of the city and for a fraction of the cost.
The next day, we looked around the main attractions including Musee d'orsay, which was spectacular, however i would recomend going with someone who shares your passion in art, as it can easily bore them!
The city is great at any time of the day and there's a great vibrancy which makes this city one of the best! However its not cheap! try and stay away from the Champs elyeese (Spelling?) till the very last day as no doubt you will spend a lot of money around there! Another point to consider is the sellers which harrass you around the main attractions, stay away from them and don't bother buying anything from them, we found this out when my friend bought a umbrella, which broke as soon as she opened it!

The next day we went up the Arc de triomph, its not too cheap but the views are really good, just be carefull of the stairs! As you can see they are steep!
We also paid a visit to the catacombs of paris which where absolutley fantastic! its basically when paris ran out of space they transfered bodies to underground mines. Lines upon lines of skulls and other various bones all fill many alcoves. Its really fascinating to do and to learn about history! Its also very cheap to go in and is fairly easy to find from the local underground.
While in the area its good to have a go up the other big tower in Paris called la tour de montparnasse i think! well its basically a skyscraper and you can go straight up to the top in this super fast lift and its just so worth it! the views from the top rival the eiffels towers and its so much more cheaper!
Well i will talk about part 2 next time! so stay tuned!
